Arkadia Records Announces The Launch Of The “ARKADIA DVD” Label!

New York (PRWEB) September 17, 2005

Arkadia Entertainment Corp., the New York based multi-Grammy nominated record label, has announced the launch of its new DVD label, ARKADIA DVD, which will release 8 to 12 titles per year.

The first release on ARKADIA DVD is the critically acclaimed film, CUBA MIA: Portrait of An All-Woman Orchestra, screened at New York’s prestigious Tribeca Film Festival, and now being broadcast nationally on PBS. The second release is entitled Latin Nights (with Tito Puente and others). All DVD’s released on the Arkadia DVD label are accompanied by a companion audio CD or soundtrack album.

CUBA MIA: Portrait of an All-Woman Orchestra is a documentary that some critics have referred to as a young sensitive female first-cousin of the Buena Vista Social Club. Filmed on location in Havana, Cuba, the film, created by Director Cecilia Domeyko tells the story of the women and the music of The Camerata Romeu, led by Zenaida Romeu. It shows us a Cuba the world can rarely see and reveals the lives of ten talented young musicians, filled with dreams and sacrifices, victories and defeats, numbing work and moments of shear genius….demonstrating the power of music to cross boundaries of nation, gender, and time.

LATIN NIGHTS (with Tito Puente and others) takes you into the nightclubs, coffee houses and performance halls to show the powerful rhythms and the cool, seductive melodies of Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Jazz, Brazilian Jazz, Samba, Tango, Canto Nuevo and other indigenous folk music of Latin America from a unique perspective. It features eleven full-length music performances by Tito Puente, Memo Acevedo, Cocada and other stellar musicians.

According to label President, Bob Karcy, the goal is simple, “We want to bring the best possible musical programs to the DVD market, with such enhancements and special features that allow for maximum enjoyment of the program, and a thorough understanding of the ar

tist and their art as well.”

“Not only have our programs been digitally recorded using state-of-the-art equipment, but every aspect of production has been achieved using the most modern digital technology available. We’ve created insightful bonus features as one would only find normally associated with ‘blockbuster’ movies. From ‘behind the scenes’ footage and “The making of…” featurettes to detailed artist interviews, photo galleries, biographies and bonus music tracks, our bonus features enhance the experience of each release.” As an additional twist, Arkadia DVD will blend the audio and video mediums by offering a companion music CD with virtually every release.

Some Future Releases

ARKADIA DVD currently has a release schedule set for 8 to 12 titles per year. The next releases include live concert performances from Arkadia Records recording artist, guitarist Nigel Clark; saxophonist/composer, Benny Golson, and Christian Howes, voted #2 Rising Star of Violin, in the Downbeat Critics Poll. In addition, Arkadia’s archives include an unreleased concert by the Count Basie Orchestra, and a historic music tv series, that includes concerts from artists such as Dianne Reeves, Willie Bobo, Stanley Turrentine, Tania Maria, Laurindo Almeida, Jimmy Smith, Pete & Conte Condoli, O.C. Smith, Dorothy Donegan and many others.

Arkadia Entertainment has recently established a production office in the Hudson Valley and has started shooting a series of new programs, all in the high-definition video format.

The first production was the Woodstock Radio (WDST) 25th Anniversary Mountain Jam Concert at Hunter Mountain on June 4th. The concert featured performances by Medeski, Martin & Wood, Government Mule, Robert Randolph and the Family Band and Australian up-and-comer Xavier Rudd. This program documents the joyous atmosphere of the event: the spirit of exuberant crowd, the exhilarating music and the spectacular mountain scenery.

We take you on stage, behind-the scenes and into the crowd to experience this historic occasion.

On July 30th, Arkadia produced the first high-definition 4-camera shoot of their new Dueling Guitar Series, featuring highly acclaimed jazz guitarists, John Hart and Paul Bollenback, destined to take their place in the lexicon of jazz history.

The second production of Dueling Guitars was completed on September 3rd and featured Ron Affif and Mark Whitfield.
